Career Options After 12th Science

A student should have careful planning in each and every step, particularly after completing his class 10 examination. When he has a clear idea about his career at this stage itself, he will be in a position to choose the right group for class 11 and 12.

For instance, if a student has the dream of becoming an engineer or doctor, he should choose science group when he gets admission to the class 11.

So, let us get into the details about the career options available for each of these categories:

Career options after 12th Science

Career options after 12th Science (PCM)

If you have taken Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects in your higher secondary level, you will have different options once you complete your class 12.

Remember that if you need admission in good colleges, you should carefully prepare for your class 12, so that you can score well and the admission process will become easier for you.

Generally, there is a heavy competition among candidates to get admission to professional courses like engineering and as you might be aware engineering is the main dream of many candidates taking PCM in class 12.

Also, many states in India do not conduct an entrance test for engineering admission and if you belong to such a state, your admission will be purely on the basis of your class 12 score.

Of course, if your dream is to get admission in best engineering institutions in India, you will have to take up common admission test. In such a case, you should start preparing for these admission tests right from your class 11.

Other than engineering, what are the other options available for PCM students?

Architecture: As you might be aware in the present booming real estate market, architects are in great demand. To become an architect, you will have to take up Bachelor of Architecture course after your Class 12 Science with PCM. Admission test is conducted for this course by top institutions in India.

Pharmacy: If you are interested in setting up your own pharmacy in the future, you can take Bachelor of Pharmacy course after your Class 12. Not only your own business, with this degree, you can find job in pharmaceutical companies as well. In addition, you can find research positions as well in pharma companies. Both PCB and PCM candidates can choose pharmacy as their career.

Other options available: In addition to engineering, architecture and pharmacy, you can take up other courses as well after your class 12 and they are:

  • B. Sc Nautical science for a wonderful career in shipping industry
  • B. Sc. Physics, chemistry or mathematics and after completion your UG in these subjects, you can take PG courses and do your M. Phil and Ph. D if you are interested in teaching profession.
  • Bachelor of Computer Applications/B. Sc Information Technology and Master of Computer Applications can help you find job opportunities in the booming IT sector

So, you have lucrative career options after your 10+2 Science with PCM, but all depends on the degree course you take after your class 12.

Career options after 12th Science (PCB)

Before actually taking PCB, check whether you can handle biology without any problem. Some students generally will have difficulty in mathematics and they go for PCB, just because of this reason.

But, it is better to ensure that you have true interest towards biology and botany. Just because your parents prefer you to go for medicine, do not take PCB, but identify your true interest towards the course.

Medicine: As you know, medicine is the main field chosen by candidates after their 10+2 PCB. But, in addition to MBBS, you have other options too like:

  • BAMS – Ayurveda
  • BHMS – Homeopathy
  • BUMS – Unani

So, if you opt for alternative medicine, you can take up the above-mentioned courses. What are the other options available other than medicine?

  • BDS – Dental Sciences
  • B. Sc and AH – Veterinary Science
  • Bachelor of Physiotherapy
  • Microbiology
  • Biotechnology
  • Biochemistry
  • Nursing
  • Agricultural field
  • Environmental sciences
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Fisheries Sciences
  • Audiology
  • Speech and language pathology
  • Radiography
  • Rehabilitation therapy

In short, the options are wide open, when you take PCB after your class 10.

So, students should decide on their own interest and future career goal and accordingly choose the right career not only after their class 10, but also after class 12 as well.

  22. Hi everyone, I too suffered through the same dilemma.. then I got to know about UTM,Shillong. They are offering some great btech courses which I really liked and enrolled myself for B.tech Petroleum engineering. My batch will be starting next year. I hope I make the most of coming years and learn a lot!! I am coming UTM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  23. Very great informative article for students who are actually confused what to do after 12th!! I would like to add some new courses to this list that are run by very few universities in India.. Like Petroleum engineering, Automotive Design engineering, Engg. in Oil and Gas and Sports Management etc these are some of the programs that are in huge demand world wide… as there is no scope left in traditional courses . A few of my friends have opted for such courses at UTM university and they are doing well there. I think you should check such courses and share some good articles on their career prospects and scope as well.
