Brief Background: Established on September 4, 1978, Anna University is all one of the top ranking universities in India which were named after Late Dr.C.N. Annadurai, former CM of Tamil Nadu. Its main campus extends over 189 acres. Its second campus at the Madras Institute of Technology at Chrompet is over 52 acres. The third campus of over 5 acres is located at Taramani, Chennai.

Admission Criteria: Selection is made strictly on the basis of merit at the entrance examination. For postgraduate degree courses, a student should have completed a three-year Undergraduate Degree through an examination conducted by a recognised University/Autonomous College.

Reservation Criteria: 15% of seats in each course for candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes and 7.5% for those belonging to the Scheduled Tribes. 27% of the seats are reserved for OBC (non-creamy layer category) candidates.

Hostel Facility: Yes. It has ten hostels on campus. Of these seven are for men, and three are for women.

6. Jadavpur University, Kolkata

Brief Background: The government of West Bengal established this University on December 24, 1955. It was ranked 84th among the 200 best Asian universities in the Times Higher Education Asia University rankings 2016. It also stood 11th in EDU RAND (Engineering College Rankings 2015).

Courses on Offer: Undergraduate, Masters and M.Phil courses.

Academic Faculties: Advanced Masters and Doctorate degree courses in the field of Arts, Science, Engineering and Technology.

Annual Tuition Fees: Jadavpur University is a government-aided autonomous institution; hence the fees are highly subsidised. Concessions in fees, (full and a half- freeship) are also awarded to needy but deserving students. There is also a provision to cover a maximum of 10% of students with full-freeship.

Admission Criteria: For UG courses through the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination, conducted by an independent body. For PG courses, students with high scores in GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) results and scholarships are eligible. Students sponsored by the industry as well as self-sponsored students are also admitted.

9. Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune

Brief Background: Established in 1949, SPPU is spread across 411 pristine acres in Pune, which is also referred to as the Oxford of the East. This Indian university houses 46 academic departments. It has about 307 recognised research institutes and 612 affiliated colleges.

19. Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai
